The All Tripura Hotel and Restaurant Owners Association has decided to deny rooms to Bangladeshi nationals amid the growing unrest in the neighbouring country. The association has announced a boycott of Bangladeshi citizens, refusing to provide them with hotel services. The decision follows allegations of atrocities against minorities in Bangladesh and the controversial arrest of ISKCON member Chinmoy Krishna Das Prabhu.
In a press release, the association stated that India, as a secular country, respects all religions. However, they expressed deep concern over recent incidents in Bangladesh, including the desecration of the Indian national flag and targeted actions by extremist groups against the minority Hindu community. These incidents, they said, have escalated to unprecedented levels.
Following an emergency meeting, the association unanimously decided to stop offering hotel services to Bangladeshi citizens temporarily visiting the state. The move, they added, aims to send a strong message against the ongoing atrocities and the deteriorating situation in the neighboring country.
This decision marks a significant development in cross-border relations, reflecting the growing concerns over minority rights and communal harmony in the region.
Earlier on December 2, in a shocking incident, the premises of the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala were reportedly breached by unidentified miscreants.
The alleged attackers were accused of desecrating the national flag of Bangladesh, triggering widespread condemnation and calls for justice. As per sources, activists of the Hindu Conflict Association protested in front of the Agartala Bangladesh Assistant High Commission office unfurled the national flag of Bangladesh and burnt it. Excitement builds. A large police force is at the scene.
Speaking to TDG, a protester stated, “What is happening in Bangladesh is known to everybody. We are protesting against the atrocities of Hindus and for insulting the Indian flag. We have submitted a memorandum to the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission and also we asked them to take effective steps to take measures against the culprits.” Meanwhile, the protesters denied any unruly protests and stated that peaceful demonstrations were held.
A statement has been taken by the Government of India on the breach of premises at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala. The statement read, “The incident earlier today of the breach of premises at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala is deeply regrettable. Diplomatic and consular properties should not be targeted under any circumstances. Government is taking action to step up security arrangements for the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi and their Deputy/Assistant High Commissions in the country.”
