Sai Teja Nukarapu, a 22-year-old student from Telangana in India, was shot and killed at a petrol pump in Chicago on Friday. He had been working part-time while studying in the US.
Incident Details
Sai Teja was not on duty when the shooting occurred. Instead, he was helping a friend who had asked him to stay on. Armed men attacked him at the pump, leading to his death. Sai Teja had moved to the US to pursue an MBA after completing his graduation in India.
Response from the Indian Consulate
The Consulate General of India in Chicago quickly condemned the murder and called for immediate action against the perpetrators. They also pledged to assist the victim’s family. The consulate posted on X, “We are shocked and deeply sad at the murder of Indian student Nukarapu Sai Teja. We demand immediate action against the culprits. The Consulate will extend all possible help to the family and friends of the victim.”

BRS leader Madhusudan Thatha visited the victim’s parents in Khammam district. He also reached out to the Telugu Association of North America (TANA) for support in handling the case. The community is in shock, and calls for justice are growing.
