Mumbai Police Investigates Rs 4.5 Crore Medical Crowdfunding Fraud

Actress Sana Khan has been implicated in a fraud case where ₹4.5 crore was allegedly raised through a medical crowdfunding campaign for a four-year-old girl. However, police investigations revealed that no such child was ever treated or admitted to Hinduja Hospital. The case was filed after social worker Arif Shaikh raised a complaint against three individuals.

According to the complaint, between January and June 2024, the accused falsely claimed that a child, reportedly undergoing treatment for spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) at Hinduja Hospital, required ₹17 crore for her care. On January 11, Sana Khan promoted the campaign on Instagram, urging support. The funds were raised through Impact Guru, a crowdfunding platform, with its director, Piyush Jain, allegedly facilitating the drive for a girl named Inara Qazi.

Social activist Arif Shaikh grew suspicious of the campaign after watching the promotional video. He visited Hinduja Hospital, where he discovered that no patient named Inara Qazi had been admitted. Convinced of the scam, Shaikh approached the Kurla court, which ordered the Matunga police to investigate.

The investigation uncovered that over ₹4 crore was raised through the campaign, which was misused for personal expenses by the accused. Subsequently, a case was registered against Piyush Jain, Naufil Qazi, and Nikhat Khan under IPC sections 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust), and 120B (criminal conspiracy). Although no arrests have been made, the accused are being questioned.

Sana Khan, known for her roles in South Indian and Hindi films, began her career as a model and starred in the 2005 Bollywood film Yehi Hai High Society. She has also appeared in TV commercials and participated in Bigg Boss 6.
