Delhi Chief Minister Atishi will oversee all the departments previously handled by Kailash Gahlot, who resigned from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday, according to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office. Gahlot, who managed portfolios including Transport, Administrative Reforms, Information & Technology, Home, and Women & Child Development, also announced his resignation from the party.
AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh alleged that Gahlot’s resignation was a result of BJP’s actions, which included accusations of corruption and a series of Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids. “Kailash Gahlot’s resignation is a part of the BJP’s dirty politics and conspiracy. The BJP government conducted ED raids on him. Income tax raids were conducted at his residence for several days. BJP put an allegation of Rs 112 crores on him. Pressure was created on him, due to which Kailash Gahlot had to take this step. He did not have any option other than joining the BJP,” Singh stated.

Earlier in the day, Gahlot resigned from AAP, citing concerns about the party’s direction and internal dynamics. In his resignation letter, he expressed dissatisfaction with the party’s shift away from its core commitment to public service, noting that political ambitions had taken precedence. “The political ambitions within the party have overshadowed its core commitment to serving the people,” he wrote.
Gahlot criticized the party for failing to deliver on key promises, such as cleaning the Yamuna River, which he said remains more polluted than ever. He also mentioned controversies like the ‘Sheeshmahal’ issue, which have, in his words, made people question AAP’s claim of being a party for the “Aam Aadmi.”
His resignation comes just over a year before the 2025 Delhi assembly elections. Chief Minister Atishi has since accepted his resignation and taken charge of the departments he previously managed.
