On the occasion of Palestine’s Declaration of Independence Day, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar expressed his heartfelt greetings to the government and people of Palestine. In a post on X, Jaishankar reiterated India’s commitment to deepening its developmental partnership and strengthening the long-standing friendship with Palestine.

Humanitarian Aid and Support

Highlighting recent aid, Jaishankar mentioned that India supplied 30 tons of essential medical supplies, including life-saving and anti-cancer drugs, to Palestine in October. This gesture underscores India’s dedication to supporting Palestine’s healthcare sector.

Modi’s Commitment to Peace

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also reaffirmed India’s support during his meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in September at the Summit of the Future in New York. Modi expressed deep concern over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and called for a ceasefire and the release of hostages.

He reiterated India’s longstanding stance on the Israel-Palestine conflict, advocating for a two-state solution as the only path to lasting peace and stability in the region.

Strengthening Bilateral Ties

India has consistently supported Palestine’s cause on international platforms, including the United Nations. The discussions between the two leaders covered various aspects of bilateral relations, from education and health initiatives to capacity-building efforts. Both nations pledged to deepen their cooperation in these fields.

India’s Support for Palestine’s UN Membership

Modi also emphasized India’s early recognition of Palestine and its continued backing for Palestine’s bid for UN membership. This reflects India’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people’s aspirations for statehood and peace.
