As Delhi braces for the upcoming Assembly elections, the political arena is abuzz with activity. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is gearing up to launch a formidable campaign by the end of this month, aiming to unseat the incumbent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) amidst its internal challenges.
A senior BJP insider revealed, “The party has completed its groundwork and is ready to hit the ground soon. All the planning, including at the micro level, has been done. By the end of this month, we will be ready to hit the ground with our full dedication and force.” This statement underscores the BJP’s meticulous preparation and unwavering commitment to reclaiming power in the capital.
In a strategic move, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva convened a crucial meeting with all seven Delhi MPs, alongside Delhi election in-charge Baijayant Panda. The agenda? To orchestrate a series of dynamic campaign activities, including yatras, door-to-door engagements, pravas (travels), chaupal meetings, rallies, and roadshows. The BJP’s comprehensive approach aims to connect with voters across all demographics and regions.
However, a pivotal question looms: Who will be the BJP’s chief ministerial candidate? The party remains tight-lipped, with sources indicating that top central leaders will be actively involved on the ground to bolster the campaign’s impact.
Meanwhile, the AAP is grappling with significant internal upheaval. Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, recently released on bail after nearly six months in custody over alleged graft charges, announced his resignation from the chief ministerial post. Kejriwal stated he would only return to office if re-elected, urging the Election Commission to advance the Delhi elections to November, aligning them with Maharashtra’s polls.
Adding to the political drama, veteran Congress leader Mateen Ahmed, a five-time MLA from Seelampur, defected to the AAP. His son, Chaudhry Zubair Ahmed, and daughter-in-law, Shagufta Chaudhry, had joined the AAP earlier, signaling a significant shift in political allegiances ahead of the elections.
The BJP is capitalizing on these developments, with leaders expressing confidence in their prospects. Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, BJP MP-elect from South Delhi, asserted that the party would win at least 55 seats in the upcoming elections, regardless of any alliances between the Congress and AAP.
