Batenge Toh Katenge’ Sparks Global Solidarity: Hindus In Canada Stand United After Khalistani Temple Attack

In Brampton, Ontario, a significant section of Hindu-Canadian worshipers at the Hindu Sabha Temple has shown the power of the community following the recent attack on their place of worship by Khalistani extremists. A video of the temple has emerged with a rousing speech by a speaker who stirred the audience with words that seemed to come straight from Indian politician Yogi Adityanath. As the speaker appealed for unification of the community, the crowd joined him in reciting, “Listen, we continue to tell you, batogey to katogey, batogey to katogey,” driving home the will to stand together.

The speaker said the attack on Hindu Sabha was not only an attack on the sabha but also an attack on Hindus at large. “Don’t think it was an assault on Hindu Sabha only.”. It was a general attack on India, on the whole Hindustan and all those living around the world and claiming themselves as Hindus, he said. His statement moved each and everyone as, like this, he tried calling them out as a people in search of a good life with proper awareness; the question however was on whom and how so “now is the time when we have to put out all of our present personal matters, for what purpose and future generations shall lead a prosperous life”.

Underlining the importance of unity, he said, “We have to unite. We don’t have any grudge against anyone, but if anyone opposes us, we will not tolerate it.” The fervent speech instilled thunderous applause and cheers in the gathering, thereby further cementing their decision to protect their community and culture. This event underlines the growing solidarity of Hindus in Canada as they face challenges to their identity and values within a multicultural society. The battle cry of “batogey to katogey” is a potent reminder to be vigilant about external threats but also builds a sense of belonging and strength within the ranks.
