In the wake of derogatory comments made by Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Arvind Sawant against fellow party member Shaina NC, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has expressed strong disapproval, stating that if Balasaheb Thackeray were still alive, he would have “smashed his face.” Shinde condemned Sawant’s “imported maal” remark, asserting that such language is unacceptable, and emphasized that “all the sisters of Maharashtra will show him his place and send him back home.”

Shinde also highlighted that the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) has previously disrespected women, referencing incidents involving sisters in Guwahati. He stressed that in the upcoming elections, women in Maharashtra will hold Sawant accountable for his disrespectful comments.

Following Shaina NC’s complaint, a case has been filed against Sawant at Nagpada Police Station regarding his remarks. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar also condemned Sawant’s comments, asserting that derogatory remarks against women have no place in society. He praised Maharashtra’s commitment to celebrating and empowering women, noting that over the past two and a half years, efforts have been made to uplift and recognize their contributions.

In response to the backlash, Shaina NC stated, “The law will take its course,” and criticized the MVA for their lack of respect for women, declaring that “the women of Maharashtra will give them a befitting reply.” She clarified that the FIR filed against Sawant was due to the outrageous nature of his comments and asserted her right as a self-respecting woman to take legal action.

On the other hand, Sawant defended his remarks, claiming he never mentioned Shaina’s name and insisting that he was referring to outsiders in general. He expressed his long-standing respect for women and accused his opponents of attempting to damage his reputation. “They file defamation cases, yet it is they who are defaming me,” he stated, emphasizing his respect for Shaina NC, whom he described as a friend.

The Maharashtra Assembly elections are scheduled for November 20, with vote counting set for November 23.
