Assam Police apprehended two Bangladeshi nationals, identified as Kobir Sikhdhar and Md. Selim, near the Karimganj border on Thursday during a routine patrol aimed at preventing illegal infiltration. Following their capture, officials confirmed the individuals were promptly sent back across the border.

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma praised Police

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the police’s efforts on social media, emphasizing Assam’s commitment to curbing illegal entry. “In yet another successful operation of nabbing illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators, two Bangladeshis were apprehended near the International border at Karimganj and pushed back across the border,” he wrote on X.

This marks the latest in a series of recent actions against illegal entry. Earlier in October, the Assam Police also detained a Bangladeshi national in Karimganj, returning him across the border. Similar operations by the Border Security Force (BSF) in Meghalaya’s Dalu area on October 2 led to the capture of five more Bangladeshi nationals attempting to cross into India.

In another coordinated effort, Assam Police on October 1 apprehended fourteen Bangladeshi nationals in the South Salmara and Karimganj districts, highlighting increased border security and vigilance.
