Diwali, which the world celebrates on October 31, is getting a very special digital tribute from Google. The search giant launched three interactive experiences on its search page. Breaking its usual practice of static or animated Doodles, this time Google offers features that would allow users to light virtual diyas, create rangoli designs, and even enjoy sweets. This interactive approach brings to life some of the festival’s most loved traditions, allowing users to engage with Diwali’s spirit in an exciting new way.

Dekho dekho, Diwali aa gayi… even on Search

Type ‘Diwali’ for a super-lit experience

Type ‘Rangoli’ to make a rangeen rangoli on your screen

Type ‘Diwali Sweets’ for a sweet surprise

How to play Google’s secret Diwali game

Getting access to these games is quite straightforward. Follow the following steps.

Google Homepage

Open the website of Google.com.

The icon, once clicked, changes the shape of your cursor into that icon and can be dragged to any part of the screen. The screen darkens a bit and you can see eight unlit diyas. Then you drag the lit diya/cursor to light up the other diyas. For every diya that lights up, stars twinkled on the screen brightening up the homepage.

The same process is repeated in the other two games:

To get the Rangoli, just type ‘Rangoli’ in the search bar. Click on the button that appears at the bottom, and the rangoli design will spread out before you as you go, ending with twinkling stars. For the Sweets game, just type ‘Diwali Sweets’ in the search bar. The click of the button brings a flurry of desi sweets popping up from the bottom, with more appearing the more you press.
