Contrary to the expectations of principal opposition Congress trying hard to retain power as well as the exit polls, the saffron Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) has succeeded in winning the polls for the third consecutive time leaving everyone stunned. Besides, the assembly poll results added to the woes of the many heavyweights as they failed to survive the polls facing a debacle. The situation is that while the exit poll results proved to be completely wrong, senior leaders of different parties who were expecting to win by a huge margin contrary to expectations had to face defeat.

On the other hand, many heavyweights and entrants were successful in proving their mettle by winning the elections. Many heavyweights from the political families of the state were also included in those who won and lost the elections. Apart from this, the ruling BJP and Congress had also given tickets to many new faces, many of whom made a successful political debut to their political innings, while for many these elections proved to be no less than a nightmare due to defeat. In this episode, it is pertinent to mention that heavyweights from different factions suffered setbacks in the polls.

Among the veterans who survived the polls, outgoing CM Nayab Singh Saini was successful in winning the election from Ladwa by a margin of about 17 thousand votes by even after shifting his seat from Karnal to Ladwa in Yamunanagar seat, while the margin of victory of Leader of Opposition and Congress heavyweight Bhupendra Singh Hooda also increased to 71465. The Olympian andthe former wrestler won in the Julana constituency by 6015 votes, defeating BJP’s Yogesh Bairagi. The assembly elections proved to be no less than a nightmare for the bigshots of many parties because they had to face fiasco contrary to expectations. Many ministers of the BJP government led by outgoing CM Naib Singh Saini including Sanjay Singh, Kamal Gupta, Gyan Chand Gupta, Aseem Goyal andSubhash Sudha, Ranjit Singh Chautala, Aseem Goyal, JP Dalal, Abhay Singh Yadav and Kanwarpal Gurjar failed to win the battle. Apart from these, Congress state president Uday Bhan, Gopal Kanda, former state president of BJP OP Dhankar, former minister Devendra Singh Babli and former finance minister Captain Abhimanyu.
