A shocking incident at L’Opéra’s Khan Market outlet in Delhi has left a customer disgusted after discovering a cockroach floating in their iced latte. The event, which took place on October 4, has raised serious concerns about food hygiene at the popular café.

The Disturbing Discovery

The customer, who goes by the username “WaltzSimple6037” on Reddit, ordered an iced latte and a salted caramel coffee for takeaway. Upon opening the iced latte while seated in their car, they were horrified to find what they initially believed to be a coffee bean was, in fact, a dead cockroach.

“I visited L’Opéra today in Khan Market and ordered an iced latte to go. When I opened the drink, I thought I saw a coffee bean floating around, but when I flipped it over, it was a freaking cockroach,” the customer detailed in their post. They expressed their disappointment not only in the discovery but also in how the staff responded to the situation.

Staff’s Nonchalant Response

Upon returning to the outlet to show the staff the cockroach, the customer noted that the staff apologized but showed “no real concern at all.” “They were so nonchalant and just kept saying sorry like robots, with no genuine concern,” the customer remarked. The incident has left them questioning the cleanliness of the café and worrying about hygiene standards at other establishments in India.

Reactions on Social Media

The Reddit post quickly garnered attention, with users sharing their thoughts and experiences. One user humorously commented, “It’s not a bug, it’s a feature,” while another added, “There are no food standards in India, even when you pay such a high price for a drink.” Several users suggested reporting the incident, with one advising, “You can complain about it on the FSSAI website and also opt for a consumer complaint for the problem.”

Filing a Complaint

In light of the incident, the customer stated that they have lodged a complaint with the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and are considering legal action. They expressed their disappointment at the experience and called for better hygiene practices in the food industry.

This unsettling incident serves as a reminder of the importance of food hygiene and quality control in cafés and restaurants. As customers demand higher standards, establishments must be proactive in ensuring that their food and beverages meet safety expectations.
