Himachal Pradesh Minister and Congress leader Vikramaditya Singh announced on Wednesday that all shopkeepers and street vendors, particularly those selling food, will be required to display their identification. This decision was made during a joint meeting with the Public Works, Urban Development, and Municipal Corporation departments.
Speaking to reporters, Singh emphasized that the new measure aims to ensure the sale of hygienic food, responding to public concerns over the cleanliness of street food. “People have expressed doubts about the hygiene of street food. Following similar policies implemented in Uttar Pradesh, it will now be mandatory for vendors to display their names and IDs,” Singh stated.
The minister also took to Facebook to inform the public of the decision, which was made in collaboration with urban development authorities. “In Himachal, every restaurant and fast food outlet must now display the owner’s ID to ensure transparency and prevent difficulties for consumers,” Singh wrote.
This move follows a recent directive by the Uttar Pradesh government, which mandated that the name and address of operators, proprietors, and managers be displayed at all food outlets. Additionally, chefs and waitstaff in UP are now required to wear masks and gloves, and CCTV installation in hotels and restaurants has been made mandatory.
