It’s been almost 11 years since Usha Uthup’s cover of Adele’s “Skyfall” first made waves, but many on the internet are still discovering it. A recent video showcasing her captivating rendition has gone viral.

Usha Uthup, now 76, is a celebrated veteran singer known for her rich, deep vocals. Her extensive career includes timeless tracks like “Hari Om Hari” and the modern classic “Vande Mataram” from ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’. Despite her long-standing career, this cover of “Skyfall” from a 2013 INK event has only recently gained renewed attention.

In a candid introduction at the event, Uthup shared, “My life, for those of you who don’t know, I actually am not as bad as I look.” She reminisced about her early days as a nightclub singer in Madras (now Chennai), where she performed at places like Nine Gems and the Sea Hotel. Reflecting on her career, she mentioned, “Everybody who ever heard me before would know that some of my biggest songs were the James Bond movie songs…”

Uthup’s cover of “Skyfall” has captured the admiration of many, with comments like, “Just saw the video of Usha Uthup covering Skyfall by Adele and I’m beyond stunned. She sounds so good!! Honestly, I liked it better than the original. Her deep voice MY GOD” and “It’s very sad to see when people talk about the great female singers they talk only about Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosale but they missed this great singer…. We are proud of you Usha Uthup.”
