Aadhaar Card Update Deadline: How to Change Address and Details Online

The deadline for updating Aadhaar details online concludes today, 14 September 2024. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has extended this deadline multiple times. The most recent extension occurred on 14 June 2024, following earlier ones on 14 March and 15 December 2023.

Details You Can Update Online

Aadhaar cardholders can update certain information through the UIDAI’s official portal. This includes updating your address by submitting valid Proof of Identity (PoI) and Proof of Address (PoA) documents.

This service is available for free if your address hasn’t been updated in the last 10 years. Ensure that the Aadhaar card is linked to the same mobile number where you receive OTPs. For other updates, such as changes to your name, mobile number, or photograph, you will need to visit a UIDAI-authorised center.

Steps to Update Aadhaar Online

To update your Aadhaar details online, follow these steps:

Visit the UIDAI website: Head to the Aadhaar Self-Service Portal on the official website.

Log In: Enter your Aadhaar number, Captcha code, and the One-Time Password (OTP) sent to your registered mobile number.

Document Update: After logging in, go to the document update section to verify your existing details.

Upload Documents: Select the type of document from the drop-down menu and upload scanned copies of the original documents for verification.

Service Request Number (SRN): After submission, you’ll receive an SRN to track the progress of your update in the future.

Importance of Regular Aadhaar Updates

UIDAI advises Aadhaar cardholders to update their details every 10 years to ensure accuracy and keep all information up to date. While updating is not mandatory unless specific changes are required, regular updates help maintain the accuracy of your Aadhaar information and reduce the chances of discrepancies in the future.
