Modi’s J&K Visit Amid Heightened Security as Large Arms Cache Recovered in Kupwara

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Jammu and Kashmir to campaign for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidates in the upcoming assembly elections. Just days before his visit, security forces in the Kupwara district’s Keran sector, along the Line of Control, recovered a significant cache of arms and ammunition.

The recovered items include AK-47 rounds, hand grenades, rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) rounds, improvised explosive device (IED) materials, and other war-like equipment. The discovery followed a joint operation by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police based on specific intelligence inputs. The Indian Army’s Chinar Corps, based in Srinagar, shared details of the operation on social media.

Modi is expected to visit Jammu and Kashmir twice, first on September 14 and again on September 19, as part of the BJP’s campaign efforts. The recovery of these arms comes at a critical time, given the heightened security concerns in the region.

In a related development, two terrorists were killed in an ongoing encounter with security forces in Kathua district, Jammu and Kashmir, on Wednesday. Additionally, a Border Security Force (BSF) soldier sustained injuries in unprovoked firing from Pakistan in the Akhnoor sector earlier the same day.

The Indian Army emphasized that the recovery of these weapons is significant due to the current security situation and upcoming events, marking a victory for the security forces.
