Originally securing silver with a stunning throw of 47.32m, Navdeep’s medal was upgraded when Sadegh, who had briefly set a new Paralympic record, was penalized for unsporting behavior. This unexpected victory marks India’s first-ever gold in the F41 javelin category and adds a thrilling chapter to Navdeep’s inspiring journey.
Navdeep, competing in the classification for athletes of short stature, initially faced stiff competition from Sadegh, who set a new Paralympic record with a throw of 47.64m. However, due to violations of International Paralympic Committee rules, which bar political gestures, Sadegh was disqualified for unsporting conduct.
Navdeep, hailing from Panipat, Haryana, overcame early struggles and societal expectations, drawing inspiration from his father, a national-level wrestler. He began his professional athletic career in 2017 and quickly rose to prominence, winning multiple national and international medals.
