Veer Zaara Re-Release: 8 Crores Away from Reaching New Box Office Milestones

After two decades, Shah Rukh Khan and Preity Zinta are set to return to the big screen with the re-release of their iconic 2004 film, Veer Zaara, directed by Yash Chopra. This romantic drama was a major hit at the box office when it first released, and now, the re-release is expected to help it achieve two significant milestones it narrowly missed during its original run.

The story of Veer Zaara revolves around an Indian Air Force officer, played by Shah Rukh Khan, who is falsely imprisoned due to his love affair with Zaara, a Pakistani politician’s daughter, portrayed by Preity Zinta. Twenty-two years later, a Pakistani lawyer, played by Rani Mukerji, takes up his case. The film also boasts a star-studded supporting cast, including Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini, Rani Mukerji, Divya Dutta, Manoj Bajpayee, Boman Irani, Anupam Kher, and Kirron Kher.

Box Office Recap

Aditya Chopra produced Veer Zaara with a budget of ₹23 crores, and it earned ₹41.86 crores at the Indian box office during its 2004 release, making it a super hit. Globally, the film grossed ₹97.64 crores.

Expected Milestones with the Re-Release

With the film scheduled to re-release on September 13, 2024, it is anticipated to reach two significant milestones:

  1. Crossing the ₹50 crore mark in India
With a dedicated fanbase for Shah Rukh Khan and Preity Zinta, the film needs just ₹8.14 crores more to surpass the ₹50 crore milestone in India. This will also allow it to earn more than double its original budget.
  2. Achieving ₹100 crores worldwide
Veer Zaara was just shy of ₹100 crores globally, and with only ₹2.36 crores left to reach the mark, the re-release is likely to push it past the century milestone.

In addition to Veer Zaara, other classic films like Tumbbad, Taal, and Pardes are also being re-released, while movies like Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein, Laila Majnu, and Maine Pyaar Kiya are currently enjoying screenings in Indian theatres alongside new releases.
