Bandi Sanjay claims BRS-Cong merger; KTR denies deal amid Kavitha’s bail struggles

Senior BJP leader and Union Minister of State, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, claimed on Wednesday that the Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS), led by former Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), is set to merge with the Congress party. Sanjay Kumar attributed Congress’s recent nomination of Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Kavitha’s lawyer, for the Rajya Sabha by-polls to this purported alliance. He asserted, “KCR has reached an understanding with the Congress. That’s why the Congress nominated Kavitha’s lawyer for the Rajya Sabha. Despite having 39 votes, BRS has not filed any nominations. The party will merge with Congress soon. Both are family-oriented and corrupt parties.”

Abhishek Manu Singhvi filed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha by-election from Telangana on Monday. This move has intensified speculations about a potential merger between BRS and Congress.

In response to these claims, BRS working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) refuted the allegation of a secret understanding with the BJP. Addressing a public gathering, KTR argued that if BRS had any such agreement with the BJP, his sister, K. Kavitha, would not be languishing in jail over money laundering charges linked to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam. “They say BRS will merge with Congress and that talks are complete. If we had a secret deal with them, would Kavitha have spent 150 days in jail?” KTR questioned.

Meanwhile, the legal situation for K. Kavitha remains tense. On August 12, the Supreme Court issued notices to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Directorate of Enforcement (ED) concerning Kavitha’s plea challenging the Delhi High Court’s rejection of her bail. She was arrested by the ED on March 15, 2024, and by the CBI on April 11, 2024. Her bail petitions were previously dismissed by the Rouse Avenue Court on May 6.
