A grand Pran Pratishtha ceremony took place in Houston on Sunday, August 18, marking the inauguration of a 90-foot-tall Hanuman statue, now the third tallest statue in the United States, according to Latestly. The statue, named the “Statue of Union,” honors Lord Hanuman’s pivotal role in reuniting Sri Rama and Sita.

The statue has been erected at the Sri Ashtalakshmi Temple in Sugar Land, Texas. The project was spearheaded by His Holiness Sri Chinnajeeyar Swamiji, who envisioned creating a spiritual epicenter in North America.

According to the Statue of Union’s official website, the statue is North America’s tallest depiction of Lord Hanuman, symbolizing strength, devotion, and selfless service. The website emphasizes that the statue represents an opportunity for the community to forge a path for future generations to seek divine blessings.

Describing the statue’s significance, the website notes, “Located at Sri Ashtalakshmi Temple in Sugar Land, Texas, the Panchaloha Abhaya Hanuman will stand at 90 feet tall – radiating benevolence, strength, and hope. The Statue of Union is about creating a spiritual epicenter where hearts find solace, minds find peace, and souls find a path to transcendence.”

Hanuman is typically worshipped in temples dedicated to him or as a subsidiary deity in shrines dedicated to Lord Rama. The tale of Hanuman has been embraced by various cultures, with the oldest version found in the Sanskrit epic, the Ramayana, penned by Sage Valmiki. According to the Hindu American Foundation, Hanuman’s extraordinary abilities in service to Lord Rama—ranging from speed and strength to courage and wisdom—are matched only by his unwavering loyalty and devotion, making him a beloved figure in Hindu mythology.
