Udaipur Knife Attack: Boy Dies From Injuries After Sister Tied Rakhi Hours Before

A 15-year-old boy who was stabbed by a fellow student in Udaipur, leading to communal unrest, died from his injuries on Monday after a four-day struggle. Following his death, the city is under strict security measures, and mobile internet services have been suspended.

Inspector General of Police Ajaypal Lamba confirmed that the boy’s body has been taken to the mortuary for a postmortem examination, after which it will be returned to his family.

Earlier, on Raksha Bandhan, the boy’s sister had tied a rakhi on his wrist in the hospital, according to Udaipur Collector Arvind Poswal, as reported by PTI.

The incident began on Friday when the boy, Devraj, was attacked outside his school, triggering protests by right-wing groups. The protests escalated into violence, with vehicles being set on fire and a shop vandalized.

The student responsible for the attack has been detained, and his father has been arrested. On Saturday, the district administration demolished the family’s house, which was allegedly built on forest land.

The attack incited further communal riots. A mob gathered at Madhuban, where they threw stones and set fire to several cars. The violence spread to areas including Bapu Bazar, Hathipole, Ghanta Ghar, and Chetak Circle, leading to market closures and damage to a shopping mall.

In response to the unrest, authorities have imposed prohibitory orders banning public gatherings and closed all government and private schools in Udaipur until further notice. Additional police forces have been deployed to restore order.
