On the occasion of the 78th Independence Day, Rajya Sabha MP Kartikeya Sharma hoisted the national flag at the sports ground of Mrs. Aruna Asaf Ali Government Postgraduate College in Kalka. He extended congratulations and best wishes to the residents of Kalka, emphasizing that the freedom we enjoy today is the result of countless sacrifices made by martyrs.

Sharma paid tribute to the freedom fighters and their families, presenting shawls as a mark of honor to freedom fighters, war widows, and the dependents of democratic activists. He expressed deep respect for the sacrifices made by these individuals, stating, “Our freedom was achieved through the sacrifices of the martyrs. We honor their memory and salute the soldiers who gave their lives to maintain the unity and integrity of our nation.”

The event was attended by former legislator Latika Sharma, Kalka Municipal Council Chairman Krishna Lamba, and SDM Kalka Lakshit Sareen. Sharma highlighted the significance of the day, noting that every Indian feels a sense of pride and joy as the nation celebrates Independence Day.

He spoke about the historic relevance of May 10, 1857, when the first spark of the independence movement ignited in Ambala, Haryana. This movement eventually led to the successful overthrow of British rule. Sharma stressed the importance of honoring the sacrifices made by those who fought for India’s freedom and mentioned the ongoing efforts to support the families of martyrs through various welfare schemes.

Sharma outlined the government’s initiatives under Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini’s leadership, such as providing loans for self-employment, building homes under the Prime Minister’s Housing Scheme, and offering free transport facilities to the poor. He also praised Haryana for its pioneering e-governance efforts in agriculture, industry, and education, including the decision to purchase all crops at MSP and the development of farmer-centric portals.

He acknowledged the contributions of traders and small businesses, noting the introduction of insurance schemes to cover losses from natural disasters and the provision of monthly pensions under the Prime Minister’s Small Traders Pension Scheme.

In his address, Sharma commended the achievements of young athletes and students, offering cash prizes and government jobs to medal winners, and honoring those who excelled in academics and competitive exams.

The celebration also featured a parade inspected by the MP, showcasing performances by students from various schools and colleges, including Alpine School, Ishar School, Sophia Convent School, and others. Sharma recognized exceptional work by principals, yoga students, and employees in various sectors.

The event saw the presence of local dignitaries, including Mandal President Bhuvanshjeet, Navrata Ram, and members of the Farmers’ Front and other committees.
