I-Day Security Prompts AAP To Reschedule Sisodia’s Padyatra To August

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has postponed the padyatra of former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia due to security concerns surrounding Independence Day. Initially planned for an earlier date, the event has been rescheduled to August 16, 2024. Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj announced the change on Wednesday after consultations with the Delhi Police, who advised the postponement.

Senior AAP leader and Delhi Cabinet Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj stated that due to the central government’s conspiracies, Manish Sisodia was imprisoned for 17 months. After finally being granted bail by the Supreme Court, the party decided that Sisodia would begin a padyatra across various areas of Delhi on August 14, 2024, to connect with the people. However, the padyatra has now been rescheduled to begin on August 16, 2024, at 5:00 pm, starting from the Greater Kailash constituency.

Further explaining the reason for the postponement, Bharadwaj mentioned that when permission was sought from the police department, they recommended delaying the padyatra due to the heightened security and vigilance surrounding August 15th. The police suggested that postponing the event by a few days would be more prudent from a security perspective, a suggestion the party found reasonable.

He added that, in light of the police’s suggestion, Manish Sisodia has decided to commence his march across Delhi on August 16th, the day after Independence Day. The time and location will remain unchanged, with the march beginning at 5:00 pm from the DDA Flats in Kalkaji.
“We do not want any issues or disturbances to occur on Independence Day.
