Amid Terror Threat J&K Police Intensify Security Ahead of 78th Independence Day

The Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) police force has heightened security measures in North Kashmir, particularly in the twin border districts of Baramulla and Kupwara, in preparation for the 78th Independence Day celebrations. The increased vigilance comes in response to intelligence inputs indicating that terrorists are positioned at launch pads across the Line of Control (LoC), preparing to infiltrate into Jammu and Kashmir.

A senior police official revealed that the J&K police’s OCAPS Commando unit has been actively patrolling the region to thwart any infiltration attempts. “The high degree of alertness and patrolling has been necessitated following inputs that terrorists are waiting at launch pads across the LoC to infiltrate into Jammu and Kashmir,” the official stated.

Visuals from the region show the J&K police conducting extensive searches after receiving reports that some terrorists might be hiding in the area. Following these inputs, the police cordoned off the entire area and initiated a thorough search operation.

In light of the looming terror threat, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have issued an advisory to the residents of the Union Territory. This advisory follows a series of terror attacks in the Jammu region and comes as local police, along with central security forces, ramp up security measures ahead of the Independence Day event on August 15.

To counter potential threats from cross-border terrorists, a multi-tier security grid has been put on high alert. Security agencies have intensified patrolling and surveillance along possible infiltration routes. Additionally, random night ambush checkpoints have been established at vulnerable locations as part of the enhanced security arrangements.

The heightened security measures underscore the ongoing efforts of J&K police and other security forces to ensure a safe and secure Independence Day celebration amidst the escalating tensions in the region.
