Bangladesh Protest Update: BSF Issues High Alert at India-Bangladesh Border

In response to the ongoing law and order issues in Bangladesh, the Border Security Force (BSF) has placed the India-Bangladesh border on high alert for the next 48 hours. BSF Director General Daljit Singh Chawdhary has traveled to Kolkata to closely monitor the situation.

A senior BSF officer confirmed that the heightened alert status is a precaution due to the unrest in Bangladesh. Both the North and South Bengal Frontiers have been directed to increase patrolling efforts. An “Ops alert” exercise is currently underway to ensure effective border control and management.

Since July 18, the BSF has been facilitating the entry of Indian students. The security along the Indo-Bangladesh border has been strengthened to prevent any illegal entry or infiltration.

India shares a 4,096-kilometer border with Bangladesh. Meanwhile, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has resigned, and an interim government is being established, according to General Waqar-uz-Zaman, the Chief of Bangladesh’s Army. He has appealed to the public to maintain peace and cooperate with the Army during this transition period.

The Army Chief has called for an end to the nationwide violence and urged the people to work together to restore order. He also mentioned meetings with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), the Jatiya Party, and Jamaat-e-Islami, along with teachers Afis Nazrul and Jonayet Saki, as reported by Bangladeshi media.
