Travel vlogger Sylvia Chan from Singapore had a troubling experience with a rickshaw puller in Old Delhi, which she shared on Instagram. The rickshaw puller, who initially appeared friendly, ended up demanding Rs 6,000 and dropping her 5 km away from her destination.

Sylvia, who was exploring Old Delhi with a friend, explained that the rickshaw puller initially agreed to a Rs 100 fare for a ride from Jama Masjid to the Red Fort. However, he refused to take the payment then and asked them to pay later when he would pick them up from Chandni Chowk. The puller also took them to various places they didn’t want to visit, including a store in Khari Baoli where he guided them on foot despite their wish to explore independently.

Frustrated by the rickshaw puller’s behavior, they decided to end the ride at Krishna Market. The driver then demanded Rs 6,000, and after Sylvia and her friend paid Rs 2,000 out of desperation, he left them without further communication.

In her video, Sylvia mentioned that while she supports local drivers, such experiences make her prefer using services like Uber for safety reasons. The video drew a range of reactions on social media:

One commenter criticized the rickshaw puller’s behavior, saying he took them to unwanted places and only asked for money in a quiet area. Another commenter, identifying as Indian, apologized for the driver’s actions, while another remarked that many Indians avoid visiting places like Delhi due to similar issues.
