Israeli Airstrikes Kill 18 In Gaza Amid Rising Regional Tensions

Early Sunday, Israeli airstrikes in Gaza killed 18 people, including four Palestinians in a tent camp within a hospital complex. The violence also saw a Palestinian stabbing attack in a Tel Aviv suburb that claimed two lives.

Tensions have surged after nearly 10 months of conflict in Gaza and the recent killings of a senior Hezbollah commander in Lebanon and Hamas’ top political leader in Iran. Iran and its allies have blamed Israel and threatened retaliation, raising fears of a broader and more destructive regional war.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, speaking at a Cabinet meeting, described the situation as a “multi-front war” and assured that Israel is prepared for any scenario, whether in defense or attack.

To mitigate further conflict, Jordan’s foreign minister is making a rare visit to Iran, as the United States and its Arab allies work to prevent an escalation. Additionally, Hamas has begun discussions on selecting a new leader, indicating potential changes within the group amid the ongoing crisis.
