Turkish Shooter Reacts To ‘Hitman’ Memes From Paris Olympics: ‘Looked Calm, But…’

Yusuf Dikec, the Turkish shooter who captured attention at the Paris Olympics, has responded to the social media buzz surrounding his distinctive “hitman style” stance. The 51-year-old former Turkish Gendarmerie officer, who won silver in the mixed team 10-metre air pistol event with Sevval Ilayda Tarhan, shared his thoughts on the unexpected fame his shooting style has generated.

Yusuf Dikec explained, “I never anticipated that our shooting position would cause such a reaction. We simply assumed our shooting positions and took our shots. Each shooter adopts a stance that best fits their own anatomy. My stance was where I felt the most comfortable and stable. While we may have appeared calm, internally, there was a lot of intensity.”

What set Dikec apart was his unconventional attire and relaxed shooting approach at the Chateauroux Shooting Centre. Unlike many competitors who wore visors, bulky ear protectors, and specialized shooting glasses, Dikec sported a yellow ear plug, regular glasses, and a casual jersey. Adding to his laid-back appearance, he even shot with one hand in his pocket, further contributing to his unique charm.

Reflecting on his viral moment, Turkish Shooter Dikec remarked, “Some people say, ‘It’s so easy, you won a medal with your hands in your pockets.’ But there’s 24 years of dedication behind that medal. I train six days a week for 4-5 hours daily. While I wished for gold, we still achieved a significant accomplishment.”

Dikec also highlighted his personal motivation, his 9-year-old daughter Başak. “My daughter is my greatest asset and source of life. Speaking with her the day before the competition gave me a positive boost. Normally, I avoid answering my phone to stay focused, but hearing from her was particularly special.”

Dikec’s unique style and heartfelt motivations have made him a memorable figure at the Paris Olympics, blending athletic prowess with personal dedication.
