A video of a girl’s weird dance at a railway station has gone viral on social media, after which there has been extensive criticising and demanding of action. Seema Kanojia, better known by her Instagram handle @seemakanojiya87, is seen in the video dancing near a lady sitting on the bench at the station. In the video, Seema touches the woman from behind in an unusual manner, seemingly as part of her dance, as the latter stands up to leave.
She was visibly very displeased and protested, but Seema continued to harass her. She signaled her intent to hit Seema and turned to leave. Seema would not stop, following her and catching her around the neck from behind. This made the woman turn around and pull Seema’s hair. After this hair-pulling incident, the video ends abruptly.
Seema posted the video on her Instagram account, which has upwards of 746,000 followers. The video received in excess of 323 million views, was shared more than 75,000 times, liked by more than 200,000 users, and received over 5,300 comments. She captioned the video and explained that the content in the video was staged and done for entertainment purposes, engaging one of her friends.

This explanation, however, does little to quell the anger of viewers who feel that this is not appropriate for public. On social media, much unsettledness was shared when many users came forward to denounce the act as rude and dangerous. Comments ranged from calling the authorities on the performers to shaming their actions of using a public place.
One of them, Manisha Kamble, says Seema should be jailed. She reasons out, “dancing like this on a railway platform was very risky.” A user mentions that a petition should be filed for strict action to be taken against such people; she would be “very angry if someone touched her without consent,” says Nikita.
Priya further commented that this incident proved the saying, “Money is not everything; there should also be brains.” Another user, Aarti Gaikwad, requested the Mumbai Railway Police to take necessary action if people were getting troubled because of this woman. Another user observed that true talent is not being recognized as people are watching and making everything viral.
Earlier, popularity was achieved through a lot of hardships like singing, dancing, talent, academics, and acting. However, now people are pushed to the extent that they use extreme steps to achieve quick and cheap popularity. The concept has been taken from the web series ‘Escape Live’ where the characters harass for popularity.
This viral video saga demonstrates more and more the extremes that people are willing to go to in order to become online famous, and the limits of what society will accept as appropriate behavior in public places. The video will no doubt continue to spread, with conversations ongoing about creator accountability and the effects of viral challenges on standards of living.
