Did You Know the “Veggie Valley of India”?: Swiggy Reveals the City with Highest Number of Vegetarian Orders

Popular food delivery platform Swiggy has released an intriguing report detailing the results of its internal analysis of vegetarian food trends. According to the report, Bengaluru tops the list for the highest number of vegetarian orders placed through the platform. Swiggy notes, “Bangalore isn’t just the Silicon Valley of India – it’s the Veggie Valley too.” The report reveals that one in every three vegetarian Swiggy orders originates from this capital city, with Masala Dosa, Paneer Biryani, and Paneer Butter Masala being the top vegetarian dishes ordered.

Mumbai ranks second in the number of vegetarian orders, where Dal Khichdi, Margherita Pizza, and Pav Bhaji are the most popular dishes. Hyderabad follows in third place, with Masala Dosa and Idli being the most ordered vegetarian foods.

From a pan-India perspective, six of the country’s top 10 most-ordered dishes are vegetarian. These include Masala Dosa, Paneer Butter Masala, Margherita Pizza, and Pav Bhaji, reflecting the widespread popularity of vegetarian cuisine.

Breakfast has been termed the “golden hour for vegetarian orders,” with more than 90% of breakfast orders on Swiggy being vegetarian. The most popular breakfast items are Masala Dosa, Vada, Idli, and Pongal. Swiggy highlights that “Masala Dosa enjoys nationwide popularity and is a popular choice for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.” Additionally, the analysis shows that over 60,000 vegetarian salads are ordered per week on Swiggy.

Swiggy released this data as part of its first-ever Green Dot Awards, celebrating restaurants with the best vegetarian food across India.
