A devastating attack during a dance event for young Taylor Swift fans in Southport has left two children dead and six others critically injured. The attack, which occurred at a “Taylor Swift yoga and dance workshop” for kids aged six to eleven on Monday morning, has shocked the community and the pop star herself.
Authorities have detained a 17-year-old male on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. The police are not treating the incident as terrorism-related but have yet to determine a clear motive. The attack also injured two adults, who are reportedly in critical condition after trying to protect the children.
Swift expressed her profound shock and sorrow on Instagram, stating, “The horror of yesterday’s attack in Southport is washing over me continuously, and I’m just completely in shock. These were just little kids at a dance class. I am at a complete loss for how to ever convey my sympathies to these families.”
In response to the tragedy, Swift’s fans have rallied, raising over £40,000 to support the affected families and the hospital treating the injured children. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the attack as “horrendous,” while King Charles and his family also expressed their shock.
