Congress MP Manish Tewari submitted an adjournment notice in the Lok Sabha on Monday, calling for a discussion on the border situation and the significant trade deficit with China. In his letter to the Secretary-General of the Lok Sabha, Tewari highlighted the “ongoing border clashes between India and China” since 2019 and noted that China recently rejected the inauguration of the Seva tunnel and claimed parts of Arunachal Pradesh as its territory.
The notice stated, “That this House do suspend Zero Hour and relevant rules relating to Question Hour and other businesses of the day to have a discussion on the border situation and the huge trade deficit with China.” Tewari’s letter elaborated, “Since 2019, there have been ongoing border clashes between India and China, with reports of Chinese troops blocking access to patrolling points in Eastern Ladakh. Recently, China rejected the inauguration of the Seva tunnel and claimed parts of Arunachal Pradesh as its territory.”
He urged the government to provide details on efforts to resolve the border dispute and “protect India’s integrity against Chinese aggressions.” Additionally, Tewari pointed out that in 2023-24, India’s trade deficit with China exceeded USD 85 billion, with exports at USD 16.65 billion and imports at USD 101.75 billion. He requested the government to inform the House about the border situation and the trade deficit, seeking permission to raise this matter.
Meanwhile, Congress MPs Amar Singh and Hibi Eden have also submitted notices for adjournment motions in the Lok Sabha, demanding accountability for the deaths of three IAS aspirants at a Delhi coaching center.
Amar Singh stated, “I hereby give notice of my intention to ask for leave to move a motion for the adjournment of the business of the house for the purpose of discussing a definite matter of urgent importance, namely: demanding accountability for the deaths of three IAS aspirants who died due to waterlogging in a building housing a coaching centre in Delhi’s Old Rajinder Nagar area.” Congress MP Hibi Eden, in his notice, called for a discussion on the “matter of urgent importance,” where three students lost their lives.
He stated, “I hereby give notice of my intention to ask for leave to move a motion for the adjournment of the business of the house for the purpose of discussing a definite matter of urgent importance, namely: To discuss the tragic and unfortunate incident where three students lost their lives in a coaching centre located in Delhi.
This incident, which occurred due to the flooding of the basement in the coaching centre, is a glaring example of gross negligence and mismanagement by the concerned authorities.” The Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, also criticized the lack of planning at every level that led to the deaths of the three students. On Saturday, three UPSC aspirants lost their lives at an IAS coaching centre in West Delhi’s Old Rajinder Nagar after the basement was flooded with water. The budget session of Parliament began on July 22 and is scheduled to end on August 12.
