New Delhi: AAP MP Swati Maliwal has sharply condemned the delay in holding accountable those responsible for the deaths of three UPSC aspirants at a coaching institute in West Delhi’s Old Rajinder Nagar. Maliwal decried the incident as “murder” rather than an accident, demanding immediate action against the involved officials.

Maliwal criticized the lack of response from Delhi’s government ministers, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s mayor, and other officials, who failed to address the situation even hours after the tragedy. She called for an FIR to be filed against these high-ranking officials and stressed the need for compensation of Rs 1 crore for the victims’ families.

“The students, who come from various parts of India with high hopes and dreams, faced a tragic end due to sheer negligence,” Maliwal said. “The absence of any immediate response from the authorities is unacceptable. This is not a disaster; it’s murder.”

AAP MLA Durgesh Pathak also condemned the incident, calling it a “criminal activity” and urging a thorough inquiry and strict action against those responsible. He criticized the BJP for past failures in maintaining Delhi’s drainage system but emphasized the need for accountability beyond party lines.

Delhi BJP Chief Virendra Sachdeva demanded an inquiry into the alleged corruption within the Delhi government and Municipal Corporation, questioning why the drainage issues were not addressed earlier.

In response to the incident, Delhi Police have arrested the owner and coordinator of the IAS coaching centre, where the flood occurred, leading to the tragic deaths of Shreya Yadav, Tanya Soni, and Nivin Dalwin. The bodies have been sent for autopsy, and investigations are ongoing.

The tragedy follows a recent incident where another UPSC aspirant was electrocuted on a waterlogged street in Delhi, highlighting ongoing concerns over safety and infrastructure in the city.
