New Delhi, July 22: Newly appointed Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Monday trained his guns at the BJP-led NDA government at the centre over the issue of NEET and paper peaks saying that there is a “serious issue” with the examination system in the country.

During a heated debate with Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, the Congress leader cornered the government over the issue of NEET.

He said, “It’s obvious to the whole country that there is a very serious problem with our examination system. This is not just the question of the NEET but major examinations.”

Slamming Pradhan, Rahul Gandhi, who is also a Lok Sabha MP from Uttar Pradesh’s Rae Bareli said, “Now, the minister has blamed everybody except himself. I don’t think he understands the fundamentals of what’s going on here.”

He said that the issue is that there are millions of students in this country who are extremely concerned about what is going on and who are convinced that the “Indian examination system is a fraud”.

“Millions of people believe that if you are rich, you can buy the Indian examination system, and this is the same feeling we as the Opposition have. This is why we are asking some very simple questions to the Minister,” he said.

“As this is a systemic issue, what exactly are you doing to fix the issue at a systemic level?” the LoP said.

The Opposition staged a walkout in the Lok Sabha during Question Hour after Pradhan denied the charges saying there was “no evidence” of paper leak in the last seven years.

Meanwhile, Speaker Om Birla suggested members should discuss developing a better examination system in the country.

The hearing on the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test-UG paper leak case is underway in the Supreme Court, with Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud leading the bench.
