The wedding of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant has captured widespread attention with its opulent display of wealth and cultural heritage. A standout feature of the ceremony was Anant Ambani’s distinctive choice of jewelry—a historic Mughal turban ornament, or sarpech, which was transformed into an elegant armlet, or bajuband.

The sarpech, originally owned by Nita Ambani and valued at INR 4.14 crore following its auction, features intricate designs with antique spinel, ruby, and diamonds. This magnificent piece of jewelry was once worn by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan and was repurposed for the wedding, adding a regal touch to the groom’s attire.

The ornament, which was auctioned in 2019 as part of Christie’s Maharajas collection for $49,500 (approximately INR 4.14 crore), is adorned with spinel beads, circular ruby cabochons, and a variety of diamonds. It also features historical engravings referencing Shah Jahan, emphasizing its rich heritage.

Nita Ambani previously wore the sarpech at the 71st Miss World pageant in Mumbai, where she complemented a black Banarasi sari with the ornament. The sarpech’s transition from a traditional turban ornament to a contemporary bajuband highlights a creative blend of Mughal history and modern fashion, reflecting a fusion of Indian and European craftsmanship.
