A significant disruption in Microsoft’s cloud services led to flight cancellations and delays globally, including in India. This outage impacted several airlines, causing flight operations at Delhi and Mumbai airports to be affected.

Airline Responses:

Akasa Airlines reported that due to issues with their service provider, some online services, including booking and check-in, are temporarily unavailable at Mumbai and Delhi airports. They stated, “Due to infrastructure issues with our service provider, some of our online services, including booking, check-in and manage booking services will be temporarily unavailable.” They added, “Currently we are following manual check-in and boarding processes at the airports and hence request passengers with immediate travel plans to reach the airport early to check-in at our counters. We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused and want to assure you that our teams are working with our service provider to resolve the same at the earliest.”

Spicejet also addressed the situation, stating, “We’re currently facing a technical issue in providing updates on flight disruptions. Our team is actively working to resolve this issue. We regret for any inconvenience caused and will update you once the issue is resolved. Thank you for your patience and co-operation.”

Global Aviation Impact:

In the US, Frontier Airlines experienced significant disruptions, grounding flights for over two hours due to the Microsoft outage. The airline eventually resumed operations, lifting a nationwide departure pause. Allegiant Air also faced issues with reservations and bookings, while Sun Country Airlines Holdings Inc reported a “global outage.”

Microsoft’s Statement:

Microsoft noted that the outage began around 6 pm ET, affecting a subset of customers with issues related to multiple Azure services in the Central US region.
