Former President Donald Trump appeared publicly for the first time since the assassination attempt on his life at a Pennsylvania rally on Saturday. Trump, aged 78, was seen at the Republican National Convention arena in Milwaukee on Monday night, sporting a large white bandage covering much of his right ear. His arrival prompted a standing ovation from the audience, who cheered “USA! USA!” and “We want Trump!”

Seated beside his running mate, Ohio Sen. JD Vance, Trump was flanked by House Speaker Mike Johnson. Also present in the same row were Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump, along with their partners Lara Trump and Kimberly Guilfoyle. Fox News host Tucker Carlson was also in attendance.

During the event, JD Vance recounted the phone call he received from Trump, where the former president explained his decision to choose Vance as his running mate. Vance shared Trump’s words from their conversation, stating, “He just said, ‘Look, I think we gotta go save this country. I think you’re the guy who can help me in the best way. You can help me govern. You can help me win. You can help me in some of these Midwestern states like Pennsylvania, Michigan and so forth.'” This interview marked Vance’s first since his official nomination by the RNC for vice president.

Reflecting on his 2022 Senate race victory in Ohio, Vance acknowledged the pivotal role of Trump’s endorsement. He emphasized, “He said rightfully that we have been very, very close for a long time, but especially since I endorsed you in 2022. And I would not have won that race without Donald Trump’s endorsement. The president’s trust then and his partnership since then has been something I value a great deal,” Vance told Fox News.
