Due to heavy rainfall ‘yellow alert’ has been issued all across Mumbai, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted moderate to heavy rainfall all over the Mumbai for the upcoming three days. “Generally cloudy sky with moderate rain in city and suburbs. There is a high possibility of heavy rainfall in isolated places for the next three days,” the IMD reports.
Minimum temperature to be expected is most likely to be around 24 degrees Celsius on Thursday, while the maximum can reach 31 degrees Celsius. Except Mumbai, IMD expects heavy to moderate rainfall in areas of Palghar, Thane, Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, Nasik, Ahmednagar, Kolhapur, Sangli, Sholapur, Aurangabad, Jalna, Parbhani, Beed, Hingoli, Nanded, Latur, Osmanabad, Akola, Amravati, Bhandara, Buldhana, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha, Washim and Yavatmal till July 12.
Most parts of Mumbai witnessed high rainfall, including Thane and Raigad regions on Sunday and Monday, which led to waterlogging, long traffic jams and disruption to local train services and flight operations. Weather officials are expecting several places to witness rainfall of over 300mm in the span of 6 hours. The heaviest rainfall was reportedly seen between 2:30 am and 5:30 am on the nights of July 8 and July 9, in the regions of eastern and western suburbs. This marked season’s first day of heavy rainfall of the city.
The IMD scientist Naresh Kumar, Mumbai states “The monsoon has been in a very active phase for the last few days. This means that the low-pressure zone is in the active zone, and the vertical extension is above the surface. There’s another pattern called a shear zone on an upper level due to which Mumbai, Goa witnessed rainfall activity. Heavy rainfall can be witnessed in the coming days in Konkan Goa,”
