Which Cricketer’s Plan Sparked ‘Vande Mataram’ Singing At Wankhede Stadium Victory Parade?

Thousands gathered at Mumbai’s iconic Wankhede Stadium to celebrate India’s thrilling victory in the T20 World Cup final against South Africa. Led by captain Rohit Sharma, Team India embarked on a joyous victory parade, expressing gratitude to fans amidst chants of ‘Vande Mataram’.

The atmosphere at Wankhede Stadium resonated with echoes of national pride reminiscent of the 2011 ODI World Cup final as India clinched their second T20 World Cup title. Amid the jubilant celebrations, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, and the entire team joined fans in singing ‘Vande Mataram’, symbolizing unity and celebration.

The victory parade, starting from Nariman Point and culminating at Wankhede Stadium, brought Mumbai to a standstill as enthusiastic fans lined the streets to catch a glimpse of their cricketing heroes. For Rohit Sharma, leading the T20 World Champion Indian team on a victory lap at the age of 37 marked a surreal milestone in his illustrious career, having debuted under MS Dhoni’s captaincy in 2007.

A viral video on social media captured Virat Kohli urging his teammates to join in singing ‘Vande Mataram’, sparking speculation about his initiative in incorporating the anthem into the celebratory proceedings.

In recognition of their stellar performance, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) awarded the Men in Blue a prize money of Rs 125 crore. However, amidst the celebrations, both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli announced their retirements from T20 Internationals. Kohli, acclaimed for his match-winning 76 in the final, led the way with his decision, followed by Rohit, who expressed satisfaction in achieving his goals on the international stage.

India’s triumph in the T20 World Cup not only rejuvenated cricketing spirits but also underscored the unity and fervor of the nation. The resonant echoes of ‘Vande Mataram’ at Wankhede Stadium will be etched in memory as a testament to India’s sporting glory and cultural pride.
