Uttarakhand: Vehicle Movement Stops At Badrinath National Highway Due To Falling Debris

In the Himalayan state of Uttarakhand, vehicle movement on the Badrinath National Highway stops at Chamoli district due to falling and piling up of debris at five places on Saturday.

Taking to X, Chamoli Police in hindi said, ‘The Badrinath National Highway has been blocked due to debris near Bhanerpani, old Nagar Panchayat Pipalkoti, Kanchen Ganga, Chhinka Paagalnala and Helang in Chamoli district.’

As a result, it has affected important routes of the state, thus leaving commuters and locals stuck on the road.

Meanwhile, the Rudraprayag Gaurikund national highway have also been blocked due to continuous rain in the region.

Taking to X, Rudraprayag Police while giving an update, said ‘The Rudraprayag Gaurikund NH 107 is blocked in the Doliya Devi (Phata) area. Efforts are underway to open the road. It is raining continuously in the entire Rudraprayag district. Travel only if it is absolutely necessary’

What Caused the Blockage? 

As per Chamoli police, debris near Angthala in the Kotwali Chamoli area is responsible for the blockage of the Badrinath National Highway.

This incident occurred at 6.54 am. Between Bhanerpani (Pipalkoti) and Nagar Panchayat Pipalkoti area, the incident of falling debris occurred at 6.49 am.

Thus, stopping the vehicle movement at the concerned highway.

Currently, the local establishment and police are trying to remove the debris and shortly after 3 hours, the vehicle movement has resumed at both places.

What IMD Says?

The weather department IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy & extreme rainfall from July 3 to July 6. In addition, the weather department has also issued red alert for the state on Friday.
