Heavy Rains Expected In Maharashtra: Orange Alerts Issued For Thane And Raigad

Due to the strengthening of westerly winds, Maharashtra is expected to experience increased rainfall activity over the next five days. The weather department has issued an orange alert for Thane and Raigad districts on Tuesday and Wednesday. Mumbaikars can expect thunderstorms with lightning, heavy rain, and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph at isolated places on Sunday. On Saturday, the city was overcast and humid, with Colaba recording 2 mm of rainfall and Santacruz recording 9 mm till 8:30 am. Thane recorded 42 mm of rainfall by Saturday morning.

Across the state, Sindhudurg is under a red alert for extremely high rainfall, while Pune, Kolhapur, and Satara districts have been put on an orange alert starting next Tuesday. Weather officials predict heavy (64.5-115.5 mm) to very heavy (115.6-204.4 mm) rainfall in Thane on Tuesday and Wednesday. Raigad is expected to see heavy to very heavy rains from Monday through Wednesday. Mumbai has been issued a yellow alert, with isolated heavy rainfall expected from Monday to Wednesday.
