Virat Kohli Scripts History, Becomes First Player to Hit 3,000 Runs Across T20 and 50-Over World Cups

In a historic achievement, Virat Kohli became the first-ever cricketer to score 3,000 runs across both the 20-over and 50-over Cricket World Cups during India’s T20 World Cup Super Eights clash against Bangladesh in Antigua. Despite a few recent poor performances, Kohli showcased his vintage form by scoring 37 runs off 28 deliveries with a strike rate of 132.14, including one four and three sixes. This milestone further solidifies his position as the leading run-scorer in ICC T20 World Cup history, with 1,207 runs in 32 matches at an average of 63.52 and a strike rate of 129.78. His consistency is highlighted by 14 half-centuries and a highest score of 89*, earning him the ‘Player of the Tournament’ title in both 2014 and 2016.

Kohli’s standout T20 World Cup performance came in 2014, when he scored 319 runs in six matches at an impressive average of 106.33. However, in the ongoing tournament, his form has been less stellar, with only 66 runs in five games at an average of 13.20 and a top score of 37. In the 50-over World Cup, Kohli ranks as the second-highest run-scorer, with 1,795 runs in 37 matches at an average of 59.83 and a strike rate of 88.20, including five centuries and 12 fifties. His highest score in this format is 117. Kohli’s 2023 World Cup campaign in India was remarkable, earning him the ‘Player of the Tournament’ with 765 runs in 11 matches at an average above 95, breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record for most runs in a single World Cup edition.

Overall, Kohli has amassed 3,002 runs in 67 innings across both formats at an average of 61.26, with five centuries and 26 fifties. This consistent performance underscores his status as one of cricket’s greatest batsmen. In the match against Bangladesh, the opposition won the toss and opted to field first.

The playing XIs featured key players, with Bangladesh including Tanzid Hasan, Litton Das, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Towhid Hridoy, Shakib Al Hasan, Mahmudullah, Jaker Ali, Rishad Hossain, Mahedi Hasan, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, and Mustafizur Rahman.

India’s lineup included Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, and Jasprit Bumrah.

This match not only highlighted Kohli’s individual brilliance but also showcased his crucial role in India’s continued success in World Cup tournaments.
