Nitish Kumar’s Gesture Steals Spotlight At Nalanda University Inauguration

The recent inauguration of Nalanda University’s sprawling new campus in Rajgir became a moment of unexpected intrigue as Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s peculiar gesture towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi captured public attention. In a video that swiftly went viral across social media platforms, Kumar was seen discreetly inspecting Modi’s left index finger, seemingly checking for the indelible ink mark that signifies voting in India.

The incident unfolded during a speech by Arvind Panagariya, the Chancellor of Nalanda University, which was attended by both Kumar and Modi. As the camera focused on the leaders, Kumar, in an almost spontaneous move, reached out to grasp Modi’s hand, drawing a momentary surprised reaction from the Prime Minister and alerting nearby security personnel. The Chief Minister then proceeded to glance at Modi’s finger, which he subsequently showed to him, as seen in the video footage released by PTI.

The inauguration itself marked a significant milestone, with Prime Minister Modi expressing his optimism about visiting Nalanda University early in his third term, viewing it as a promising start to India’s developmental journey. Spread over 455 acres, the campus is situated at the historic site of the ancient Nalanda University and boasts modern facilities including two academic blocks, spacious auditoriums, hostels accommodating up to 550 students, and a range of recreational amenities.

As the video continues to circulate widely on social media, it serves as a reminder of the unexpected moments that can punctuate even the most meticulously planned events, leaving behind lasting impressions and sparking conversations far beyond the confines of official speeches and ceremonial gestures.
