Today, the Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, accompanied by Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, is scheduled to meet with President Droupadi Murmu.
Their agenda is to present the comprehensive list of newly-elected Members of Parliament (MPs), marking the initial step in the formation of the 18th Lok Sabha. Following this, the President will extend an invitation to the largest party to commence government formation.
Yesterday, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) unanimously passed a resolution to nominate Narendra Modi as their leader for the third consecutive term. The BJP-led NDA secured 293 seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha election, surpassing the majority mark of 272.
A gathering of NDA leaders convened at PM Modi’s residence to analyze the election outcome and deliberate on the formation of the government. Notable attendees were Telugu Desam Party leader Chandrababu Naidu and Janata Dal leader Nitish Kumar, whose combined 28 seats are crucial for maintaining the BJP’s coalition majority.
