World Environment Day: PM Modi Launches ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ Campaign

On World Environment Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday launched the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign.

Prime Minister Modi also planted a peepal tree sapling at Buddha Jayanti Park in Delhi.

PM Modi, joined by Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav and Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, participated in the tree planting event.

World Environment Day, observed on June 5, marks the anniversary of the commencement of the 1972 Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment.

The current year’s theme for the celebration is “Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience,” emphasizing the critical importance of rejuvenating and preserving our land resources.

Meanwhile, the Union Cabinet is anticipated to convene today at approximately 11:30 am in Delhi. NDA leaders will assemble at Prime Minister Modi’s residence, 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, later today around 3:30 pm.

Notable figures such as Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and former Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu are expected to participate in the NDA gathering.

The INDIA bloc assembly is scheduled to take place in the capital city around 6 pm.
Both the Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA and the opposition INDIA bloc are slated to convene meetings on Wednesday to outline strategies for future political endeavors.

The tabulation of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections occurred on Tuesday. As per the Election Commission of India, the BJP secured 240 seats, significantly fewer than its 2019 count of 303. Conversely, the Congress displayed notable progress, clinching 99 seats. The INDIA bloc surpassed the 230 mark, presenting formidable competition and confounding all prognostications.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has secured a third term, yet the BJP will need to seek support from other parties in his coalition—namely, JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar and TDP’s chief Chandrababu Naidu.

The BJP fell short by 32 seats of the 272 majority threshold after the votes cast in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections were tallied. This marks the first occasion since the Bharatiya Janata Party’s ascension to power in 2014 that it failed to attain a majority independently.
