Bengaluru: Heavy Rainfall Leads To Power Outages In Many Areas

Bengaluru residents experienced substantial disruptions in electricity supply over the weekend and continuing into today, owing to intense rainfall that lashed the city. The heavy downpour, starting on Saturday afternoon and recurring on Sunday evening, resulted in extensive power outages across multiple neighborhoods.

Many residents expressed their dissatisfaction with the disruption, pointing out the challenges of balancing remote work and household tasks during power outages.

“Since this morning, frequent power outages have disrupted our community, significantly impacting daily life and work, especially for remote employees. As a remote employee, the lack of electricity has halted my work, productivity has plummeted, and meeting deadlines has become challenging,” informed a resident.

Several individuals also turned to social media channels to vent their dissatisfaction and recount their encounters with prolonged periods of power outages. A user on the ‘X’ platform expressed, “Yesterday more than 10 hours of Power cut. Now again…”

Another posted “Bengaluru brand lies in tatters. No power over 12 hours now in many areas. This is just plain ridiculous in a proud silicon city. Absurd reality.”

“Trees falling everywhere, no power, water logging, traffic woes, and many more! One major rainfall & Bengaluru comes down to this state, blore contributes highest taxes, where are my tax my right activists hiding? The administration had a full 7 months to prepare!”

BJP leader Tejasvi Surya also took to X, writing, “One bout of rain and Bengaluru is in utter chaos – roads flooding, homes inundated, trees falling on cars and disrupting traffic and metro.”

He added, “Despite being in power for more than a year with close to no rain, Congress failed to take preventive measures to tackle water logging & stormwater drain management.”

The intense rainfall caused various technical issues in the urban power system, resulting in power cuts affecting both residential and commercial zones. These interruptions added to the difficulties already experienced by locals dealing with the negative impacts of the severe weather conditions.
