Police in Kamal Lond village have detained three suspects in connection with the killing of journalist Nasrullah Gadani, Geo News said. The targeted police action aimed to apprehend those responsible for Gadani’s death, which occurred last Friday. Gadani, who suffered gunshot wounds on Friday, was laid to rest in Ghotki the following day.
Known for his courageous journalism, Gadani worked for a Sindhi newspaper and shared his reports on social media, often fearlessly criticizing local feudal lords, political figures, and government officials. The attack happened while he was traveling from his home to the Mirpur Mathelo Press Club. Armed assailants ambushed him on Jarwar Road near Deen Shah, fired at him, and then fled the scene. He was taken to Civil Hospital Mirpur Mathelo for emergency treatment and later transferred to Rahim Yar Khan for surgery.
The journalist community is mourning Gadani’s untimely death, expressing deep sorrow and grief. On Sunday, a joint protest was held in front of the Karachi Press Club, condemning “the atrocities committed by tribal chiefs and feudal lords,” as reported by Geo News. The protest was organized by the National Trade Union Federation (NTUF), Home-Based Women Workers Federation (HBWWF), and other social, political, and human rights organizations.
Protesters demanded the arrest of Gadani’s killers and those responsible for previous murders of political and social activists. They also called on authorities to protect journalists and media workers by enforcing the protection of journalists law. Additionally, the protestors demanded an end to providing shelter to hostile and anti-democratic elements within political parties and urged abandoning support for the “tribal leader” involved in Gadani’s murder.
Other demands included the recovery of all missing citizens, including Farhad, and punishment for those involved in these acts. Protestors also called for the registration of all media workers with social security and pension institutions, and requested the Sindh government to allocate funds to support Gadani’s family, especially his children.
