Once again, institutions in Delhi received bomb threats via email, this time targeting 15 colleges on Thursday afternoon. The threats were later confirmed to be hoaxes.
Among the targeted colleges, six were located in the North Campus, one in the South Campus, four in Southeast Delhi, and four others in Outer Delhi, South Delhi, and Dwarka.
Notable institutions like Lady Shri Ram (LSR) College, Hansraj College, Ramjas College, Sri Venkateswara College, and IP College were on the list. Delhi University’s South campus admin block also received the threatening email, with LSR College being the initial recipient, followed by the other colleges marked in the CC section.
The email, received between 2 pm and 4 pm, warned of a bomb threat at the university premises, causing authorities to mobilize the Delhi Fire Services, Bomb Disposal Squad, and police personnel. After thorough checks, the email was deemed a hoax, with no students present on campus to cause panic.
Investigations into the email’s origin revealed its use of a Cyprus-based email service. The search operation lasted for two to three hours, with ongoing efforts to trace the sender’s details.
This incident adds to a string of similar threats in recent weeks, encompassing over 150 schools in Delhi-NCR, hospitals, IGI airport, and the North Block. These cases have been consolidated and handed over to the Delhi Police Special Cell’s Counter-Intelligence Unit for investigation, focusing on tracking the IP addresses associated with the emails.
