A member of Bangladesh’s ruling party, Awami League, has reportedly been missing in India since May 18, prompting a thorough search effort. Anwarul Azim, the missing MP, arrived in India on May 12 and was last seen on May 13 in Bidhannagar near Kolkata, where he went for a medical check-up with friends.
While he mentioned plans to travel to Delhi, there has been no direct contact since May 13, with only mobile messages indicating his intended journey. Concerned by his sudden disappearance, a family friend lodged a missing person complaint at the Baranagar police station in Bidhannagar.
According to the complaint, Azim attempted to contact his assistant on May 16 without success, leading to concerns about his whereabouts. Indian authorities, in coordination with Bangladesh’s diplomatic missions, have initiated an investigation.
The purpose of Azim’s visit to India was reportedly for medical reasons, as stated by family and friends. Both Bangladeshi and Indian authorities are actively involved in the search operation, with updates expected as the investigation progresses.
