“Once I Got My Fifty, Virat Said….”: RCB’s Will Jacks on Century Against Gujarat Titans

IPL 2024: England all-rounder Will Jacks, who made a memorable debut in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), shared insights into his remarkable century against Gujarat Titans (GT), his admiration for star batsman Virat Kohli, and the affection he received from fans.

Jacks, along with fellow England players Jos Buttler, Liam Livingstone, and Reece Topley, departed their IPL franchises to join the national team for the T20 series against Pakistan starting from May 22.

In his eight matches for RCB, Jacks accumulated 230 runs at an average of 32.85 and a strike rate exceeding 175, including a century and a fifty. His standout performance was against Gujarat Titans on April 28, where he reached his maiden IPL ton in just 41 balls, the fastest-ever in the tournament’s history.

Reflecting on his century, Jacks shared how Kohli’s encouragement propelled him to excel. He described the moment when he realized he was about to achieve a century and Kohli’s jubilant reaction, capturing it in a photo on his phone for posterity.

Despite the accolades, Jacks remains grounded, acknowledging the support of his teammates, especially Maxwell, and his camaraderie with Australian star Cameron Green. He expressed his readiness for international cricket, eager to make his mark in the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Jacks, delighted about his selection for the T20 World Cup, admitted to the disappointment of missing out on previous tournaments but affirmed his readiness to contribute to England’s success.
